UNIT WEIGHT OF STEEL BARS
(Co-efficient Method)
The weight of steel is an important for project managers, design engineers and site engineers.
Steel is typically priced per tonne (1000kg).
Weight of Steel Bars per metre is calculated using the equation
Weight of the steel bar W = D2/162
D is the diameter of the bar in mm.
This equation assumes that density of steel bar is 7850kg/m3, which is usually the general case.
If the density is varying, other methods like using steel tables or manufacturers specifications shall be followed.
Illustrative Example:
Calculate the weight of 10mm steel bar per
running meter
Weight of steel bar = D2/162
Weight of 10mm Steel bar per metre = (10 X 10) / 162
= 0.618 kg/m
